Reading has always been an enjoyable pastime for me. I grew up in small-town rural Georgia with one traffic light. More so, I was raised from humble beginnings, and traveling wasn’t always an option for my family. However, reading was one form of escapism. Not only did it provide vicarious experiences for me, but I enjoyed learning for the sake of it. My love for reading paved the path for my decision to pursue a career in education. Teaching for over ten years opened my eyes to how challenging Reading, English, and Language Arts were for students.
The Covid-19 pandemic further highlighted this issue. While virtual learning has allowed many teachers to differentiate instruction in innovative ways, the abrupt transition has been a strain on students.
In 2021, I was inspired to create an in-person tutoring service, Rooted in Reading, for at-risk readers. It was essential to offer an alternative solution to parents looking for assistance to help improve their child’s academic performance. Since then, I have worked with students of all ages to help them discover their full potential while highlighting patience and self-encouragement.
Through my unique and personalized approach, my students can develop sustainable study habits and effective learning strategies. My greatest joy is watching students succeed and unlock their potential.
