Reading Beyond the Classroom

Reading to create empowerment, impact, and self-awareness in young minds.

Reading, English, and Language Arts rates are the most challenging academic subject for students. Many schools across the nation struggle with closing the literacy gap. Rooted in Reading aims to serve grades 2-5 at-risk students who are not receiving the personalized instruction needed for success.

Rooted in Reading’s mission is to provide direct instruction to students of color to improve their reading and comprehension while engaging them in learning and building their confidence to be successful.

Reading Lesson

Rooted in Reading focuses on direct instruction with elementary students. An initial session will include a Reading Inventory Assessment to gauge the student’s area(s) of growth. Once the data is reviewed, an individualized plan will be developed for students to work on vocabulary, word work, fluency, comprehension, and reading skills. The Reading Coach will monitor the student’s progress with Progress Charts of fluency passages, sight word identification, and targeted reading skills.

Rooted in Literacy to Be A Lifelong Reader

Books, reading, writing, and creating are great investments to instill in students early. The stigma of reading is commonly associated as “nerdy,” “geeky,” and even “uncool” must be dismantled. These perceptions of reading negatively impact and disengages students of color from participating in reading independently.
